TL;DR
- Protocol team of Astra, Harbor, and Skye is traveling to the Nexus/City of Flowers on Omega.
- The team needs to cross the European continent and West Asia to get to southwest India all the way from Pearl in Lisbon, with Atlas forces already in pursuit.
- Sova contacts Brimstone about a minor injury he sustained from training.
- The story on Protocol record about how Sova lost his eye is likely a cover story.
Likely the penultimate patch and lore update of the year before the expected reveal of the new map for Episode 6. And so, the journey to the Omega Nexus begins with Astra, Harbor, and Skye traveling to Omega. We see they used the Alpha-Omega teleporters at Pearl to arrive on Omega, and now have to cross all of Europe and West Asia to arrive at the city's location in India, all while under pursuit from Atlas (Since last patch's updates, we've also had some from the lore Discord spotting similarities from the city's architecture that may place its specific location at Hampi, in the southwest state of Karnataka, to match with the location shown on the billboard (source)).
Astra voicemail (both voicemails can be listened to here):
Brimstone, can you hear this? Hope so, sending comms from the other side is not easy. We made it out of Portugal but they are on us! These Atlas fools are all over the place. We split up, I drew them away from Skye and Water Boy, we'll work through Europe, then regroup. No sign of Legion yet, could be very good or very bad. But we'll make it, I promise you! Just wish us luck, okay? Okay.
The Protocol has developed cross-dimensional comm arrays to keep in contact with the team between worlds. They had been worried about their reliability, but as evidenced by Astra's voicemail arriving they've so far been successful.
5.10 Bulletin board and Chamber email
Besides the mission on Omega, we also got some content about Sova. He sends the second voicemail this update, to inform Brimstone about a minor injury he sustained from training.
Sova voicemail:
Commander, please accept my sincerest apologies. In my zealousness I may have set the danger room to...slightly above the recommended safety limit. Uh, as a result I have received a non-life-threatening injury which I can assure you will not interrupt my duties. I'm on the way to medical as we speak. Once I am treated I will ensure that the blood on the floor is cleaned. It is a slipping hazard and for this, again, I apologize. Speak to you soon.
But Sova also received some new voicelines this patch. Whilst these usually don't reveal anything too huge, this update has an addition of note from a chat interaction between Cypher and Sova:
Cypher: "Sova, I accessed your background file, a good story! But that's not really how you lost your eye."
Sova: "And your file is missing, Amir. Explain that."
Whilst we still don't even know what the alleged story behind how Sova lost his eye is, it appears something is being covered up, why else would "golden boy" Sova let his background records be inaccurate? Speculation has always been it had something to do with defending Alpha, whether that was as an agent of the Protocol or just an inhabitant of Alpha in general. Together with the knowledge that Sova has "been through a rift" and also already met his Omega counterpart, it's also been though that these events might all be connected to each other. But (personal speculation here), an interesting point might also come from Fade's dossier about Sova. The Russian has built a reputation for being extremely reliable, a "man who never missed a shot". But there was one time where he missed his shot before, which again has been speculated to have something to do with his lost eye. Maybe the story behind how he lost his eye exposes a moment where Sova failed badly, something he feels might put his reputation of near-perfect reliability under scrutiny, with even the voicemail from this latest patch accompanying this kind of mindset.
