A clear explanation on why Yoru has no real purpose in VALORANT.

To preface this I am aware this is reposted nearly every day, but I noticed very few of the posts actually go in depth and explain issues with them.

Every part of Yorus kit is terrible.

His TP has almost no use cases as it leaves you vulnerable during animation (unlike Reyna and Jett), requires you to place it beforehand (unlike Reyna and Jett), has an extremely short timer meaning it can't be used for quick rotates all that often, and is loud as fuck, so it can't be used in any aggressive form.

His flash is super loud, super easy to dodge, 200 credits while providing no intel or the ability to entry flash like phoenix, takes fucking ages to actually detonate, and is just overall terrible to use.

Footsteps are only good against a raze or killjoy. That's it. They are super easy to notice, have a long pullout/deploy time, and can't be used actively.

His ult is the worst, it costs 7 credit which means it should be at the same value as a viper ult that controls an entire site, an omen ult that grants instant rotations, a killjoy ult which acts essentially as a big ass grenade, a breach ult which stuns and pushes an entire area. Not only that but it is super loud, has no actual use cases aside from gaining intel, and a super long pullout time meaning (combined with the loudness) it cannot be used aggressively in any form. Sure, you can argue it's powerful for info, but so is:

  • Skye's ult which provides exact locations, minor cover, an audible and visible distraction, and a stun+nearsight on contact. Skye's wolf which acts as a Yoru ult with no downsides.

  • Cyphers ult which provides the exact location of up to 4 enemy players on the entire map nearly instantly. Cyphers wires which provide constant information wherever setup (flanks), and his cam which can be used to clear large angles with little to no risk.

  • Sovas drone and arrow which provide a near risk-free scan of entire areas, and his ult which can be used to clear (and reveal) large areas

  • Razes boom bot which literally clears an entire room and will explode with 125 damage when it sees an enemy.

Summary

This shows Yoru has no real purpose in the game. He is unable to act as a lurker due to having almost no information and very limited rotation. He can't behave as a dualist due to having 0 active Util to help him clear areas and win engagements. Every role he is supposed to fill is handled 100 percent better by another agent.
