How does one go straight from a 1 hour ban to a 7 day ban? I was carrying my team, and had to leave for a few rounds in a 9-3 winning game due to a semi-emergency AFTER making sure it was okay with my team. The worst part is if I have a blackout (summers in India) or something next time, I'm probably going to be blasted into a month ban or something ludicrous.
Listen, I live in India. I play on a desktop. And while I live in a fairly urban area, in the summers you get a small electricity cut once every few days. I can't control this. The infrastructure simply isn't there to support 99.9%+ stable game-play. And this is something understood by 99% of the people in the region.
There have been times when a sudden rainstorm descended into my area. I told my teammates about it, requesting them not to report-bang me in case I lose electricity. Were their responses anguished cries of "dude wth don't play if you aren't sure nothing in the universe will make you leave your seat for 2 minutes!!!!" ? No. They show sympathy, because it happens to a lot of people in this region. Most people replied with something along the lines of "I get it dude, don't worry. Just focus on the game while you're here."
Meanwhile, I've been in games where a player decides to throw for absolutely no reason, and begins following you like a dog, jumping to reveal position and running away with the spike. And me and my solo queue teammates will have to put up with this behavior for 45 minutes. Can't close the game either, because if you do, boom! Banned!
It's especially painful when I am (mostly) a civilized player, have never thrown a game, and actively try to prevent harassing of under-performing players and abusive global chat. It's especially frustrating because I've had teammates who do all of that, and I've not once received a report feedback about any action being taken against them.
If someone goes AFK, it makes the game more difficult. If the team has the proper attitude, it can even turn into a very positive experience (clutching a 4v5 game). But if someone is actively throwing, the whole game session turns into a very negative experience. So please, when improving this facet of Valorant, focus on griefing! And parameterize your afk penalty algorithm according to server regions.
P.S. I'm not saying I shouldn't be penalized. I understand a fair system has to penalize me regardless of my reasons. But for god's sake. How does one go straight from a 1 hour ban to a 7 day ban?
