Recently I have been started to aggro peek when I hear an enemy walk up to the angle Im holding, due to the ability to maybe pick of a kill and then retreat.

But I started to question if that is the correct play, over just waiting for the enemy to walk into my crossair.

I feel both is correct play, but unsure when I should aggro peek and when I should just hold.
