It is a consensus for people to consider their and opponents creds when deciding how to spend their creds. But, I think that the ultimate status (especially the timing) should be part of that equation especially in Rounds 1 - 4
For example, let's take a look at 100T strat:
- After a pistol win, where Asuna farmed maybe 2-4 ultimate points, he buys Phantom/Vandal on the second round, so that he can farm more ultimate points and he has rifle in the 3rd round.
- After winning Round 2, 3rd round comes, with Asuna (on Phoenix or Raze) having an ultimate which for me puts them at an advantage or evens out the playing field at the very least, even though his teammates only has bulldog/spectre.
For me, this is part of the reason why they can convert their 3rd round (bonus round) into a win. It is now obvious that the they can easily get an easy 4-0 advantage since the opponent is broke on 4th round.
But what will you do if you lose the pistol and one of the opponents is close to having their high impact ultimate?
In their match against XSET, XSET forced on the 2nd round. I don't know if they do this no matter what, but I think that it is a good play. Now winning round 2 is close to 50-50 since they forced.
- If you win 2nd round, 100T will go into round 3 broke, in which they might save their ultimate (Asuna's to be exact), or spend it to try to win
- If you lose 2nd round, you will be broke for Round 3, but your goal is to bait out their ultimate in this round. The enemy might choose not to use it since you are already broke. Now 4th round comes, you will have ultimate advantage if the enemy used in the 3rd round, or you are on equal playing field against them since both team have ultimates.
Compare that to saving on 2nd round.
- You are more likely to lose round 2, and let enemy team farm ultimate points (through kills).
- 3rd round comes but you are not really at an advantage (especially if you have no ult and the opponent has one high impact ult).
- you are saving on 4th round, which can give the enemy an easy 4-0 lead.
Am I missing something? What do you guys think? Is the 100T strat broken since teams save on the 2nd round? Should we implement this in our ranked gameplay?
