Every few days, somebody makes a post about crouch spraying, asking whether it's good or bad, how to do it properly, or how to counter it. Here's the answer to all of those:
Is crouch spraying good?
Objectively, it doesn't matter. However, habitual crouch spraying is bad. If you are crouch spraying in most of your gunfights, you're probably not doing it right.
How do I crouch spray properly?
Super simple. If you connect a bullet ("tagging" the enemy), crouch spray. This works for two reasons:
- The enemy is slowed bc they are tagged
- Tracking while spraying is really hard in Valorant-- tagging the enemy eliminates the need to track
So, if you hit the first 1-3 bullets on the enemy, feel free to commit to a crouch spray. I generally don't recommend doing this past 30m, but I've seen it work frequently, so who am I to judge?
How do I counter crouch sprayers?
Simple, there are three ways:
- Don't get hit
- Take your time and headshot them before they spray you to death
- Jiggle behind strong cover
The easier method is to not get hit in the first place. You can do this by swinging wide and not stopping your swing until you are ready to shoot their head off. Be sure to NOT change direction once you start. You will go into their spray and likely die because of it.
If you do get tagged, you're dead unless you hit your shot, so make that first bullet count.
If you're behind a strong metal wall or another obstacle that is difficult to wallbang, jiggle peeking can also be quite effective to counter habitual sprayers.
Keep in mind that these tips for countering crouch sprayers are more prevalent the lower your rank is. As you climb, you may require better aim, better movement, and better peeking techniques.
