I did a bit of a study on deathmatches using tracker.gg to find out as to why if:
- I win the first one, the next one's hard.
- I lose the first one, the next one's easy.
Figured that deathmatch also has an MMR system, albeit a one that's far more flexible than the ones in other game modes. I'm D1. If I win one, the next one has ascendants(and an imm or 2). If I lose one, the next one has gold and below.
The problem with this system is that most people think that if you get 40, you're perfectly warmed up and ready to go, until you get obliterated by the enemy team. A false sense of feeling like your ready basically.
Another problem with this is that if I want to effectively practice a sidearm or a half buy weapon against better opponents, I have to smash through the easier deathmatches and wait on the tougher ones to practice. This gets pretty time consuming.
Instead maybe we could suggest the devs to add a deathmatch difficulty selector to the game? One difficulty with similar MMR to practice aim duels against people in your elo. The higher one with higher MMR to practice against people better than you. The lower one with lower MMR to (idk, gain confidence? but then it wouldn't really be a warmup, lol). What do you guys think? And also, how do I suggest this to a dev?
