Couldn't find an answer for this myself so forgive me if it's been asked before. I want to buy up to tier 50 and try to grind for the 1st epilogue tier tonight.
EDIT: I just tested this and it does indeed carry over, in case anyone else is wondering the same thing.

why can't yoru [place] and/or [activate] his [steps] in his [ult]?
seems like it would make sense, considering he is able to to cross dimensions in his ultimate, maybe being able to manipulate his steps (or at least activate them) wouldnt be too broken while offering him a fair buff.
