How do I entry into site as a controller/sentinel?

I mainly play Cypher and Omen, but I always end up pushing first or playing aggressively. I do this because the fields and initiators on my teams always bait me or lurk for kills. I’m in iron 3 (really low) so is this just an issue with my rank?

How do you get spike first?

I see trolls always getting the spike first and I don’t understand how; does it have something to do with the pc specs and fps/ping or something? Also I heard you can take the kick the trolling defused by pressing defuse but it never works...
