How much of a skill gap actually exists in lower elo?

To start off im not here to complain. I've actually hit a recent streak of pushing from b2 to s3 in this act completely solo.

Which got me thinking that maybe elo hell is a genuine thing. I always looked at it as an excuse before. But I've been playing since release and never been able to push past bronze 2 even being in iron 1 for a good amount of time. Now out of nowhere my rank is exploding and hasn't slowed down even with my win rate being below 50 percent. Im incredibly happy as my stats have visibly improved so I know im getting better. But I've got 2 friends who are high gold 1 and mange to play to par with gold's consistently but have low silver accounts where they genuinely don't play any better stats wise between their accounts.

I truly think currently elo hell really does exist on this game unlike what alot of mid to high level players say. The biggest skill gap that I've noticed from my 400 hours on this game (yah i suck) is from low iron 1 to high iron 1. Maybe im exaggerating a tad but the point stands. It was harder to push (for me and some friends) and play well in low bronze than it is for me to push and play well in high silver. These aren't baseless claims. I like looking at stats and stuff. My k/d is higher than ever (yah not always the best stat) and yet my elo is higher than ever by miles.

I'd like to hear your guys thoughts. Maybe this post doesn't make sense. But it just some thoughts I'd like to discuss.

Edit 1: I mention playing with friends and playing solo. Which doesn't make sense but I haven't actually played comp with these guys since last act I just been seeing how they've been doing.
