How Overconfidence Kills fundamentals

Hello, I'm B. Shawty

This is kind of thank you, to the man who helped me remove the last barrier holding me back from the competitive scene. Hopefully this will help someone else as much as he helped me.

This one sentence changed everything for me.

"Realizing that your aren't the greatest player alive and that if you want to improve you will have to look for your mistakes and fix them." - u/vu1ee

For the entirety of Episode 4 Act 1, I have been hard stuck gold 1. I would get no value in my games and lose my mental after a single deathmatch. When one of my diamond friends finally decided they would join me on a gold account everything changed. We'll call him Chris.

The first game we played together was like a warm up to me. Chris took it by storm, top fragging without competition. And that was all it took for me.

Like no other, I was untouchable. I would consistently solo carry the next two games and feed my god complex while Chris struggled to find his rhythm, he went from top frag to bottom frag for the next two games.

When I was doing everything better then someone else who is much better then me according to our lovely Valorant rank system. Witch made me feel like I had no rivals, that I was one of the best. Unfortunately I had to go to work ending our win streak short.

That was yesterday, Feb 23, 2022 I earned 74 RR in a matter of 3 games. I gained more RR then I have all act. For context, I have a lvl 3 dorito now.

When I got on today, Feb 24, 2022 I felt worse now then when I started playing on pc, just over 1 year ago. I could barely kill a single soul after 6 deathmatches. Taking my confidence from yesterday and rubbing it in the dirt.

With such a dramatic change in my performance, I of course blamed the game instead of myself. (I was digging my own grave) witch led me to u/vu1ee who changed my perception of the game.

I believe when my friend my friend Chris, had the same problem yesterday as I just had. He thought he was better then the gold players in our lobbies and forgot the fundamentals of Valorant.

Thank you,

u/vu1ee
