I highly recommend everyone spend a few days/week with your scoreboard key UNBINDED!

Hi guys,

I wanted to share a self-made tip that will not "MaKe yOu RaDiAnT iN a WeEk!1!!" but can really assist with your focus while playing the game! If you're like me, you find yourself spamming the tab key before the round starts, during the round, after you die, after your teammate dies, when you're sipping your water, when you're thinking about the next play... and so on... It just becomes a major distraction to me and it takes me out of the game. So I decided to unbind my scoreboard for a month. I rebinded it to "Watching Here" and played the game without being able to check the scoreboard.

I will start that the #1 biggest issue, and the main reason I can't say to do this forever, you are unable to see the enemy's economy which is vital when planning your rounds and what you'll buy. But with that issue, I wanted to list out all the reasons this is super beneficial and helped me

  • I started to hear how often I press tab - My friends were ready to kill me, every couple seconds "Watching here. Watching here. Watching here. Watching here." I started to hear an audible cue every time I would try to look at the board. I would literally press tab all the time, for no reason other than the fact that I'm bored. Over time it got less and less and less, to the point that I stopped pressing it all together. This helped me greatly because now I press tab with purpose, only to check economy, and then I don't have to press it again. I now tab once during the start of the round, and once when I die or someone disconnects.

  • I started focusing on me, and not everyone else - This is actually my biggest reason for suggesting this. I noticed that without a tab button, I can't see how good or bad my teammates are. I have no idea who's top frag and who's bottom frag. I no longer had these useless thoughts of "My sage isn't killing anyone." "I'm not buying X because they're bottom frag." If anything, it actually kept me focused on my own play. And when Raze died, I couldn't tell if this was their first death or their 20th death. If you can't see a scoreboard, you're actually not paying attention to the past 6 rounds, you are in the NOW. There have been countless times where I ended the game thinking my Sova was popping off, and found out that he was only 11/15. Or games where I felt that I wasn't doing enough, and the game ends and I see I'm MVP and was actually doing a lot. It made the end screen a happy surprise and really just showed that I focused way too much on how many kills people are getting rather than playing the fucking game.

  • I had a huge mental reduction in who is "smurfing" - Similar to above, I also couldn't tell who was popping off on the enemy team, which made me a lot less scared of my opponents. There are games where the Reyna killed me every fight, but the game ends and it turns out, Reynas only kills were on me, and that someone else was actually the top frag the entire time. People use the scoreboard to hurt themselves and to distrust their teammates, but once you can't see who is popping off, you lose all the fear. You become more confident because it's just an agent, you have no idea who's being the most valuable.

  • You can still see your team's economy when you buy - When you buy you can see how much your team has, and when you die you can see damage charts, so you are still able to be valuable with comms and your team.

  • I found myself a lot happier and less stressed - The scoreboard can cripple you and cause you to doubt yourself. Or even cause you to start yelling and attacking your team. Knowing how you're performing can be a good thing, but I think worrying about your performance is better for post-game. At the end of every match, you get to see your final score, how you did, what went wrong, and can evaluate yourself after the game. But during the game, you are focused on the objective and yourself. No more extra noise.

  • I would pair this with muting the enemy chat - Final tip on this is to mute the chat from the enemy. The enemy is going to add 0 value to your gameplay, and it will become another distraction. People use shit talk to get under your skin and make you play sloppy, this whole tip is about focus and playing the game. I would hit every game and mute every enemy team member. Do it for your sanity. You have now removed so much unnecessary noise and I promise this will help if nothing else does.

Overall, I think everyone should try it, just for a few days or even a couple of weeks, just cut off the scoreboard. It helps so much mentally, and the game becomes a lot more fun. As a controller/initiator main, it really helped me focus on my util and not on if I'm getting the first pick or not. I'd have a game where I feel like I'm popping off and getting all this intel for my team, and they are all happy I'm on the team with them and assisting them. Then I get to the post scoreboard and I'm mid-frag. That is NOT a bad thing, rather that's a great thing, it means I was focused on my utility. You check your assist scores and they're super high. Or you know that you were doing what was best for your team, and not just trying to pop foreheads. I think everyone should give it a try, just for a bit, especially those who find themselves getting really angry during the game. You'll learn to not care about your kills. :)

Would love to hear your thoughts, and if anyone gives it a try, would love to see the results. The only metric I have is that I went from a 47.4% w/r in E5:A1, E5:A2 I was a 46.2%, and now in E5:A3 after turning off the scoreboard I have a 64.3% w/r! So much noise is gone, all I do now is focus.

EDIT: Another big thing you won't be able to keep track of is your team's ult points. So I'd definitely communicate with them on this.
