Disclaimer: This is just a story about my first time playing duelist in a competitive scenario, there is no hot takes, or anything interesting, i guess.
I'm usually the filler player, I let everyone pick and just fill in what we need, usually it's smokes (Brim) or some sort of reckon/support (Sage, Skye, Chamber*).
However, yesterday, after all this time, there were no duelist insta locked, the team needed someone to do the site entry. I thought about just not picking and just leave the game, since I wasn't so confident playing a role I never played before, but I said fuck it, I'll pick Jett.
And it was a fucking great game, duelist kits are so awesome to play, you just burst into site making enemies crazy while you're doing, and in the meantime your team is behind you just grabbing the quick frags you spotted for them.
In defense you can use your kit to keep the enemy team in their toes.
"Are you sure you're going to pick mid, you know I have enough money to buy OP"
"Are you going to rush site? Raze has ult ready"
You can push crazy positions and just dash into safety and smoke yourself of if you need to, you can updraft in weird spots or just updraft to make your enemy think you're in weird spots.
While playing with Sage or Brim I feel like I have to avoid combat, because if I die, the team immediately loses a lot of "win%" for that round, so I just play safe. But with duelists it feels like the game is totally different.
Also the economy is a lot different, being able to use your ultimate as a "free gun" saves you a lot of money for OP in a later round.
It also gave me a new perspective of what the duelists in my team are thinking during the round.
Btw, it was a win and I was second in the score board, only behind an amazing KAY/O from my team that was giving amazing calls.
