Is everyone really okay with the current reporting system in games such as Valorant?

Unpopular opinion disclaimer?

Naturally a game made by Riot Games will attract League of Legends players, and It's no surprise that the reporting-culture remains somewhat the same in this game. In my experience I will have people wanting to report each other in pretty much all of my games, even games where we stomp the enemy team. Usually for something very minor that could be settled by muting each other, a feature I don't think is being used nearly enough by most players. I don't think I've played with a single person that has intentionally tried to sabotage the game by either team-flashing, blocking or whatever.. Which for me would be way worse because there's obviously nothing I could do about that. Obviously that does happen which is not okay and certainly deserves some form of punishment.

Now this might just be me, but having the report system be this way and the constant punishing of players seems to make people look for any excuse to report or otherwise not get along with teammates. Having everyone focusing so much on this small feature truly makes for a sad gaming experience.. I know people such as Videogamedunkey, whom I certainly don't consider to be a toxic person, has made videos on this topic in the past after his League account got banned. I myself and literally all of the people I know have at some point broken the ToS or talked shit in some way shape or form, competitive games can truly be frustrating and no one is perfect, yet banning them makes no sense to me. It's not that I condone behaving this way but it's going to happen, people are still people.

Personally I would much rather just remove the ability to report a player for verbal or text based offenses and actually have people use the mute function, or at the very least making muting the person you want to report a requirement before you get to do so. I know this obviously isn't a perfect solution but at least every game wouldn't be about who reports who. Also tracking players who constantly gets muted and then giving them a reaction makes much more sense to me..

Now me coming over from CS obviously affects my view so I'm just interesting in hearing about what you guys think.

tl:dr - In my experience the report system being the way it is creates way more problems than it actually solves
