Is ranked progression system supposed to be this harsh?

Ok, so I'm bronze 2 currently and I just got off insane 15 win streak. I'm playing for a couple of weeks now and I played some time ago in act 1 or 2 I think. I've been playing a lot of duelist in beginning but now defender play style suits me more so I play mostly Killjoy, Viper, Sage, Brim and sometimes Sova and Cypher.

I'm gonna be honest, in this win streak I got carried few times but most of these games I played good, I felt like I've made good plays and my kda was pretty decent. I've watched some yt videos on some strategies and lineups and it finally started clicking for me and I found myself really enjoying playing these agents that I found too complicated earlier. However after these 15 wins I've noticed I didn't rank up as much as expected. I went about 200RR up from beginning of bronze 1 to beginning of bronze 3. That averages about 14RR per match.

And I'm not mad when I get obviously carried and get 10RR because honestly I might've not even deserved those 10 but what really started to confuse me is the amount of points I get when I play really good and be the match mvp. And it's not just about the kills, I felt I helped my team as I play a lot as support and kills just came along the way.

So here's an example. I'm playing killjoy, I'm mid fragging, 21/20 is the final kd and I get 14RR. Next game I'm mvp, again as killjoy, 23/10 is final kd and I get 16RR. And I would've imagined it's because of the different enemy ranks but they were quite similar. At the beginning of the streak I played mostly against iron and at the end against bronze and I progressed very much the same.

And finally I come to that loss and I lose 26RR quite deservedly so as I bottom fragged and I didn't feel good about my plays at all. Next one was a disaster, two of my teammates on 200+ ping and one rage quit. I lost 21RR although I tried my best to make something out of that game and my kd wasn't even bad. So essentially I lost almost 4 wins worth of points based on the progression trend I had earlier.

My question is: is climbing really supposed to be this slow and losses this punishing? I try to learn something from every game be it win or loss but honestly I have no idea what I have to do better when I make good plays, get kills and win and I only get 15-16 RR. I don't think I even went above 18 in those games. And then I always lose at least 20RR on loss no matter how good I play. A week ago I dropped first 30 kill game, went 30/17 and I lost 20RR anyway.

Could it possibly be because I play more defensively? I remember when I played duelists I used to get 20+ RR on really good performance. So do I have to play aggressively or like a smurf to progress faster?

Don't take this post as a rant or salty. I'm genuinely asking for an advice or explanation. I'm not too obsessed with rank, I would honestly be really happy if I get to gold.
