My buddies and I all either work full time jobs, don't have enough time, or simply aren't good enough to play in tournaments, go pro, or play faceit matches. However, we still have that competetive "itch" to us, and sometimes ranked doesn't do it for us. We assume that there are many many others who play Valorant, that are just like us, which is why we thought the idea of a Rec League could be a fun, innovative idea.
The details are far from ironed out, as this is a brand new idea, and we just wanted to gauge the interest levels of this. However, here is what we've come up with when it comes to the format. (Keep in mind the amount of teams, is totally up in the air. This is just an example.)
Format
Bronze League
- 16 Teams, 2 groups of 8
- Group stage is round robin (each team will play each other once)
- Top 4 teams in each group advance to a double elim bracket to determine a winner.
- 8 Total teams advance to the tournament.
- No prize money, just bragging rights, and a good place to meet friends.
- No prize money, should mean absolutely no toxicity. We all have bad games.
Silver League
- 16 Teams, 2 groups of 8
- Group stage is round robin (each team will play each other once)
- Top 4 teams in each group advance to a double elim bracket to determine a winner.
- 8 Total teams advance to the tournament.
- No prize money, just bragging rights, and a good place to meet friends.
- No prize money, should mean absolutely no toxicity. We all have bad games.
So on and so forth
For now we have decided to exclude iron, immortal, and radiant players. However, if those ranks have enough demand, we see no reason to not allow them into the rec league.
Scheduling
- Assuming each rank has 16 teams, that means each team will play 7 matches over the course of a month. (Game days are still up in the air, but we assume Saturday will be best.)
- 4 weeks of group play
- One day for the tournament
- Each season will take 5 weeks
Teams
- 5 Players to a team
- If someone on your team is unable to play, we will provide a substitute from the other groupto fill in
This is basically where we're at with it at this moment. We have a whole lot more to figure out than this, and we definitely need your help! We aren't sure when the innagural season will start, but the goal is as soon as August!
One last thing to keep in mind is that the people running this all work full time jobs. This obviously isn't meant to be a competitor to the VCT, so things aren't always going to be perfect, but we do hope to find some people to help moderate.
If you are in fact interested in playing in the rec league, here is a link to the discord server. This is what we will use to post any further announcements.
