Right after beta, teams like T1 and TSM were dominating the scene. Just like how we got super hot fiya skins like the Prime collection, the Oni, the Sovereign and the Reaver collection... Gun designs were really showing us that there was a lot of potential. Even the gun collection design like the Elderflame, which had a lot of mixed opinions about were highly detailed and unique from other sets. We even got some other cool interestingly themed gun collections like Singularity and Ion...
But something happened in the months of late 2020...
T1 and TSM started failing to qualify... a new generation of teams were resurfacing, restructuring and the hierarchy within the pro scene shifted.. and this sucked out the souls of the design team, leaving them inspiration-less and devoid of creativity.
A distraught design team with a broken heart led to the beginning of the end of quality gun skins with the beginning of it all... Nebula collection.. which initially seemed like interesting idea spiralled into a depressive creative slump. "They just cut brax and AZK... i know we're all emotionally grieiving... let's just make this every skin from now on until they can recover" the lead designer. Birthing us winter wonderland, horizon...
First came the denial. You see that with the release of the Valorant GO collection which was yet another green screen gun but heavily marketed with interviews, excessive gun buddies and player cards.
Then came anger.. "we don't just do green screens skins!! Give them a rehashed skin collection... prime Odin!!!!!"
Then came bargaining.. "we'll give them another re-hashed skin collection... Sovereign AND reaver in one bundle but we'll give it a pristine kill animation.. but we gotta balance it out by making it only available in moldy green"
Then depression: "T1 and TSM did make it to Iceland... Let's just go back and make another green screen gun.."
And finally acceptance: "we're too sad to make new designs. Let's just keep recycling green screen skins and 2.0's of previous skin collections because just like the movie industry, people will still pay to see the Spiderman Origin story 9 more times and they keep buying it anyway, so let's apply this logic of comfort buying to our skins.
Then TSM released Tailor and Cutler... "Also the Matte Black collection received a lot of positive feedback on April Fool's, let's make it a real thing but relabel it as "minimal" and charge $40 for it"
So this is where we're at. The mere devastation of the morale of the design team because T1 and TSM arent performing like they used to.
I think if Chet and Brax are the necessary changes to TSM, and bringing Ans into T1 actually bring glory back to these two teams.. maybe the valorant design team will just stop recoloring old skin collections and rereleasing green screen skins.
Chet, the future of valorant gun skins in your hands... What are you going to do with all this pressure? The design team really went down bad to Yoru tier, but will they come back to lineup-Sova tier?
