With how often players go AFK, I think the consequences are still minor if not nonexistent. There have been countless valid suggestions for how this problem can be addressed so here's my take. I think a more effective way of combatting AFK offenses would be to have something lasting and visible on the player's match career.
My suggestion is that whenever a player goes AFK in a game, they get an icon, highlight, or flag attached to that match's stats under their name to indicate that they were AFK.
Potential benefits:
- Greater player visibility of AFK teammates and opponents. Making it easier and more likely for players to report these offenses if they're visibly flagged as AFK.
- A more visible stigma against AFKing that would help combat AFKers from continuing to do so
Downsides:
- More player reports to handle?
Cost:
- Minimal. Seems like a minor addition to the GUI of the post-match scoreboard given that if a player is AFK, they are already detected by the game so there are already tools and processes to handle that.
