So this might come off as generic to some of you, but hear me out. I’ve seen many guides on how to rank up in valorant, ranging from the “improve your aim/gamesense”, “dont solo q”, “commas are important”, etc. while these are important, yes, I feel that an often overlooked aspect of valorant ranked is the mindset you take when you queue for comp. What I’ll be talking about here is the fixed vs growth mindset. You’ve probably heard of this before but very seldom take it into competitive lobbies.
Essentially, what both mindsets come down to is how we, as the player, perceive failure. While a fixed mindset player will get discouraged over failure, a growth mindset player will look at failure as a way to improve. Essentially, being a growth mindset player means that perhaps losing a comp game or deranking does not scare you. Growth mindset players are much less prone to tilt, as they look at a lost game as a way to improve instead of a mark of failure. Growth mindset players care more about how they can improve, rather than their actual rank. Compare this to a fixed mindset player. Fixed mindset players are sometimes scared to even queue for comp, as the fear of losing looms in the back of their minds. When these players lose a ranked match, they get much more tilted, because well… to a fixed mindset player, failing is frustrating. Growth mindset players will keep a generally cleaner head than fixed mindset players. (Ps. Keep in mind it is always good to take a break when you are getting tilted)
This mindset can actually extend inside the game, as well. Growth mindset players will , again keep a cleaner head. These players will play confidently but not stupidly. They won’t go for stupid plays, but will instead make smart decisions. Growth mindset players take aim duels with confidence, and will almost always stay positive. Compare this to a fixed mindset player. These guys have significantly less of a chance to clutch up a round, because they are so afraid how of their teammates will think if they fail. This is the main source of what we like to call competitive anxiety. All fixed mindset players suffer from this, as they are anxious about failing, which causes significant decrease in rational decision making, and aim. These Players will also get repetitive, and try the same thing over and over again, as idea of trying something new and producing a non-optimal result scares them. Growth mindset players play better
