I cannot count the number of times I've heard the argument 'Chamber is more a duelist than a sentinel'. This sentiment is factually wrong.
Chamber does not possess any abilities to create space or entry a site. What he excels in is site anchoring - holding a site by holding angles and TPing to safety. Watching flanks is just 1 aspect of being a sentinel, not all of it. We see sentinels like Sage without a flank watch. Instead, she has site anchoring skills with the ability to slow enemy pushes with her slow orbs and can block off a choke point with her wall in places she can't physically be at. In reality Chamber is no different. He slows enemy pushes with his guns ability (Headhunter, Tour De Force which creates slow field on kill, only viable defensive OPer, etc.), while having a trip on another site / choke point that he can't physically be at.
Another unpopular opinion - Riot hit the nail with Chamber nerfs. By downgrading his flank watching abilities and retaining his aggressive site holding abilities, they gave Chamber a unique identity - an aggressive sentinel. This makes Cypher the premier flank watching agent.
Now, is he still currently overpowered? Yeah. Statistics don't lie, his high pick rate is a testament to this. His biggest strength is his TP which allows him to get out of jail free. Imo the TP isn't even that unhealthy for the game since it requires pre-meditation and planning by setting them up (unlike pre-nerf Jett). It also makes him the only viable defensive OPer in the game with 0 risk (Reyna needs a kill, Jett needs to gamble). The cooldown should definitely be nerfed to be higher though, to punish placing TPs down mindlessly.
Side note - while his TPs are his biggest strength, I think the most overlooked part of his kit is the amount of economical value he brings to the team. The free guardian being able to carry forward to the next round, his ult allowing him to skip on buying a weapon, etc. I see way too many people focusing on his TP being broken which in fact, his economical value is also equally as strong. The reason I say this is because - I feel that if Riot nerfs his trip even more, he'd still bring value to the team with his economical value. A good nerf in my opinion will be to add a range to his trips, which will cement Cypher as the global flank watcher. Sadly I don't think Riot would go in this direction due to the large community sentiment that his trips are what makes him a sentinel, which I'm trying to address in this post.
In summary I agree that Chamber still needs some tuning (i.e. higher TP cooldown, +1 ult orb to tour de force, having a range on his trip) to get him into a more balanced spot. I agree that the nerfs are not enough, but calling his nerfs 'removing the sentinel part of kit' is a little disingenuous.
