Currently in Valorant, skills can give assist points when helping a teammate to get a kill. Like when a friend kills someone on the Cypher's wire.

Regular assists are when you do 50+ damage and someone else get the kill

Even though Viper's decay system inflict 50 damage for an ally to get the kill, you get nothing for it. This strikes me as a terrible failure, as it affects 3 of her abilities, including the ultimate
