Yoru's ultimate is not a duelist ultimate

Hi everyone,

I've been playing Yoru since before the rework and after taking some time to reflect, I believe Yoru's new ultimate does not fit his role as a duelist. By no means am I saying that his ultimate is bad - he gathers a lot of info for free, and if you pair the ultimate well with your team, you can get your teammates some free kills.

But that's really the problem - it feels like his ultimate is more for your teammates rather than for yourself. You gather info for your team, flash for them, and confuse the enemy by providing lots of fake audio cues. Let's compare his ultimate to other duelists:

  • Phoenix: You get to take duels essentially for free for a short amount of time. The game encourages you to take duels by giving you an advantage of a free life (I acknowledge that you will lose your armor if you lose the fight, but you're still alive in the game).
  • Raze: You get a big bazooka that encourages you to take a duel and get kills. The game encourages you to take duels by giving you an advantage; an extremely deadly, large-radius weapon.
  • Jett: You get fully accurate knives while moving that reset upon left-click kills + a shotgun for close-range encounters. The game encourages you to take duels by giving you an advantage; an accurate weapon while moving and a shotgun.
  • Reyna: You get a firing rate boost and full heal on kills + invisible dismiss that allows you to reposition. The ultimate encourages you to take duels by giving you an advantage; you have a faster firing rate, full heal, invisible dismiss, and a minor visual advantage because the enemies are glowing red.
  • Neon: You get a speed boost plus a laser that you regenerate based on kills. The ultimate encourages you to take duels by giving you an advantage; mobility and a powerful weapon (though some may consider her ult to be weak).

The common theme here is that each of these ultimates encourages duelists to take fights by giving them an advantage in duels.

On the other hand, Yoru's ultimate does not give nearly as much tangible advantage in duels as the other ults. You can use the ultimate to reposition for putting your tp in a spot you wouldn't be able to get to otherwise, and the same with your clone.

You basically cannot flash for yourself since the pullout animation is too long for you to peek off of your own flash, especially with the opponent being able to turn the flash. You can't really use the ultimate to get behind someone without them noticing, since the ultimate makes a loud noise when you exit. Your tp is too loud and laggy to get a kill on someone, and if the tp is far enough away from anybody to hear, you're not really taking a duel; you're just on a flank.

Essentially, the advantage that you get on your opponent is that you can position yourself anywhere against them, but the problem is, this repositioning is not enough to give you an advantage in duels similar to other ults. Oftentimes, you just use the ult to ping for your team, flash a bit, and then tp away when the ultimate is about to expire.

What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on Yoru's ultimate.

Tl;dr: Yoru's ultimate doesn't encourage you to take duels for yourself because of its loud noise and slow pullout animation, which is contradictory to the duelist role and all other duelist ultimates.
