Hello Valorant players!
Ever been in a loop where you keep playing even though you're on a losing streak? Or when you're feeling bad. Why can't you end on a loss? Why does it seem harder every game to stay collected? These are some of the questions I've asked for my masters thesis.
I'm trying to find out how matchmaking can affect your emotional regulation and enable toxic behavior. To research this I've made a survey which measures your preferred playstyle, emotional response, emotion regulation, tilting behavior and toxic behavior in about 10-15 minutes.
I'm combining this with data scraping in order to look at a sample of your last couple of games. Through this I hope to find evidence of failures of matchmaking (More skilled enemies, less skilled teammates) but also the impact of meta adherence on matchmaking results and the resulting emotional states.
If you've played any unrated or competitive games of Valorant in the past three days, you're eligible to fill out this survey. I'll be posting the results on this subreddit so the information learned can be used to better understand how matchmaking can influence your desire to play even when you don't feel like it. Understanding this mechanism should help to assess your mental state better when playing Valorant. This in turn should lead to better performance or just less frustration.
