Never depend on moderators to enforce the rules on offending players. Always know them beforehand, and raise an objection when you see one broken.
I played my very first Valorant tournament today. It was a small one. We had qualified in the first round and were playing the second one today. We reached 12-4, but then the our opponents started to make a comeback and took us to overtime, depending on a strategy of ares and odin sprays (which I completely give them credit for, as we were the ones who couldn't make it past the sprays).
But the thing is, they knew our team was on a tight schedule, as we had already mentioned we had an exam in an hour and they kept pausing the game multiple times due to one of their players going offline. This really threw our momentum down and we kept growing more and more frustrated. At the end, as the overtime kept going, the moderators declared that they had other matches to stream too and asked if any of us wanted to forfeit. The game was already dragging on for too long and our team decided to forfeit because we just needed to pay attention to real life commitments.
Only later we came to know that the tournament rules said that you weren't allowed more than one tactical pause, and that too for 90 secs only. Also, players shouldn't pause games on their own, which they did, w/o any permission from the moderators.
When we made these arguments later, the organisers dismissed them saying we did not protest at the right time and that we had already forfeit the game.
So we paid the price for our ignorance. Lessons learnt. Maybe it will be of help to someone.
