If you are having a bad game and your whole team can't buy full armor and rifles that round, make sure your top fragger/best player has the rifle and you take the smg/shotgun.

Make it a priority to have them fully equipped. Getting carried once in a while is ok.

Many times I see the bottom fragger fully buying and the top fragging duelist is running a stinger/spectre because they can't afford util. You can always pick the gun back up from the ground if they die.

As Sova says, if you are not a good shot today, there are other ways to be useful!
