Hey how do i not run into enemys crosshairs because it feels like when i peek and stop i get insta headshotted

I've read the old threads about this, most of them made before the vandal buff. Now it seems like every game, 90% of players are using vandal over the phantom. Vandal also seems to have more kills per game than phantom at every skill level...
