Balancing Patience with Initative

[This is basically a thinly veiled excuse to complain about two opposite things.]

Quite often, the team will give me the spike. Sometimes, they will not use any utility to help enter the site, and they don't peek any corners either. We might have 2 Leers, 4 Flashes, and a Owl Drone, but the only utility on the site we're attacking is my smoke. No initative whatsoever.

Sometimes, the whole team will get hit with a ult (like Fades), right at the start of the round while doing a rush onto a site. Instead of backing off and regrouping (given that there is over a minute of the round left, and we could easily reset and either try again later, or rotate), I've seen them all run in while debuffed, spilling out of a well-defended and smoked off choke point.

Now, evidently, I'm no better on average, because I'm at the rank where these things happen. I've probably frozen up or made stupid plays before. (And my aim is not very good either.)

Indeed, fixing these two problems are at odds with one another. One asks you to act and take risks, while the other asks you to refrain from action and risk. Can you flip from one to the other while under pressure?

In your games, how do balance these two important-but-opposed ideals in your games.
