Does headshot percentage really matter?

I'm Gold 1, my average HS% is 30%, my peak is 55% in comp, but sometimes I feel like maintaining a high HS% doesn't help me rank up that much. Like, I'm still G1. Should I still focus on HS% or any other aspect?

Edit 1: I main Omen and Sage, play Viper on Icebox, and sometimes fill in the initiator role. I tend to have a safe playstyle, I work on strats with my duo (He mains Chamber) and we play man advantage most of the time, so I rarely get greedy.

Edit 2: Thank you everyone for your support and constructive comments. Shoutout to lordrages for pointing out the term "optimal kills". I do occasionally whiff when focusing on headshots too much rather than securing kills in certain situations, so I will need to work on that.

The reason I aim for the head much is that I used to spray too early without crosshair placement back in iron and bronze, leading to whiffs, so I trained placement and discipline to duel better. I mean, now I still screw up if I flick and spray, but generally getting my crosshair to head level and shoot does take less time for me to kill, compared to my spraying. I only spray in very close fights or when I don't have enough time for heads.
