I actually don't know how much of a hot take this is, but I personally think it is.
I'm not going to get into specifics or propose any plans of my own because I don't know the inner workings of the VALORANT team, but I will report on a few rumblings I've heard from my friends and around the internet. Don't get me wrong, I love getting new agents all the time, but I would like to voice a few concerns.
The majority of the time when I try to get my friends (most of whom play cs) to play VALORANT, the main issue they cite is how confusing the game is for beginners, as there are abilities flying everywhere and flashes left and right. Even for my friends who play VALORANT but don't follow it as closely as most of us probably do, they often complain about having to come back to the game to always find a new agent mixing up the gameplay.
Now don't get me wrong, for someone who plays very often, the addition of new agents every 2 months is great and it always keeps the game fresh. However, I would appreciate if instead of releasing a new agent every 2 months, we could get one every 3-4 months, with maybe 3 maps a year instead of 2 because quite honestly I think we need more of them at this point. I understand that Riot has different teams for each of these parts of the game, meaning that affecting one team wouldn't impact the other, but regardless of this I think having a little more time to let new agents marinate and for players to really get to know them would both be a benefit for casual and hyper-competitive players (in terms of fully exploring new agents and how they fit in the meta).
Once again, I understand how much the current act system and design team structure doesn't really make this an easy fix. But especially as the game becomes older, I think slowing down the number of agents added would both help the top levels of play and reduce the barrier of entry for new players. The main thing I really want right now is to see the scene grow and I think this would go a long way in helping.
