Isn’t the point to see if you fit in your rank so if I play people way above me and obviously lose how does that do anything

I recently started a solo smurf. My main is diamond and I solo queue 9/10 games i play. I decided to start a smurf to prac other characters and to avoid some irl friends who kinda force me to play unrated with them.

Why have I been playing only Diamond/plat players for my entire climb up through silver/gold?
Over the past week, I've grinded from Silver 2 all the way to Plat 2 but the climb has been made so much harder because I literally only match with people way above me. Even in Silver I was against someone Ascendant and the rest of the tea...
