like if were talking the top 1% of the playerbase im sure comp matters a lot. when youre immortal and up ideally youll want every advantage.
but at the same time this isnt overwatch. this isnt even really a hero shooter. there arent dedicated tanks, healers, and dps. everyone is the same height, same health, and everyone can buy the same weapons, and everyone does the same damage with those weapons. some characters have heals, but theyer more of just a nice thing to have as opposed to the reason you pick them.
and lets be honest the calling duelists "duelists" gives off the wrong impression of what theyer actually doing.
for us regular folk how much does comp actually matter? because sure the enemy team might have a more well rounded team, but a vandal shot to the face is the great equalizer.
Team comp in this game just doesent seem as straight forward as it is in other games, not when everyone is theoretically on even ground with each other. this isnt league of legends, or dota 2. its not overwatch. im sure statistically some agents maybe lose slightly more against others, but its telling that valorant doesent have a "draft pick" system or a way to swap agents. there is no "ah they picked (x) character, so ill pick (y) and shit on them".
note im not saying 5 duelist wouldnt matter, of course it would. but lets say you have 3 duelists a smoke and a sentinel. not ideal on paper but how much does this actually matter? WHEN does this actually start to matter? plat? diamond? ascendant? immortal? does it even really matter at all?
