Is DPI really that important? New player to shooters

Hello, I started playing Valorant a bit less than 2 weeks ago and have been struggling a lot. I'm totally new to shooters (last game I played involving guns was Fallout 4, and my aim was so bad I had to use 5 weapons with different ammo types to not run out lol). However, I'm not a "bad" gamer. I have played League since season 3 on and off and float around diamond 4-3. I also raid on Heroic level in WoW.

In Valorant I'm currently Iron 3. I was perusing the subreddit for the first time and learned that pros play on like 400-600 epdi. I had really never thought about dpi before. I have used 2600 dps for years and never felt uncomfortable with it. My in game sensitivity I set to 1.2 which meant my epdi was about 5 times higher than I now found recommended!!

Am I crazy for playing with this sensitivity in games in general? I never ever thought about it before.

I just made some tests, in game in League (edit, also on desktop same result), if I have my cursor in the middle of the screen I need to move it 2-3 cm before it hits the edge of the screen. Which means very small movements are necessary to pan camera etc. Typing it out it seems rather silly, since my mouse pad is 25 cm across. I only use like 25% of it lol.

So how does one get used to a lot lower sense, like 5 times lower? I will change it in Valorant (and maybe lower it a bit over all for other games). Seems I have to build new muscle memory. I'm used to micro adjustments, never really picking up the mouse ever (also realising I only ever used my wrist, apparently using your whole arm is common?).

On the bright side, I already suck super hard at Valorant, so I can't suck that much more if I suddenly change my sensitivity, right? ;)

Edit: Setting expectations: I only started playing Valorant because my friends started playing it, it's another game we can play together and have fun in. I'm not looking to become a pro, nor spend 20 hours in aimlabs every month or something crazy. I'm just just playing this game on the side to have fun with friends and looking to improve a bit.
