So, I was on a team recently and we began arguing with ourselves because the enemy team had two bot derankers. It was the first time I had seen it before, but apparently two players on their team just had a macro set to force their character to just run forward into a wall at the start of every round and would just constantly knife the wall (maybe to keep their character "moving" so it wouldn't kick them? not sure). Once we realized what was going on, the other team began asking us to just draw the match and they didn't want to lose RR like this.
3 of our members agreed that was fair and the only way to make things right. 2 of us (myself included) were against the idea. This is basically what led to discourse among the team and we began arguing on voice chat and stuff. Now, I fully understand everything they were saying. The situation sucks, they didn't ask for the deranking bots to be put on their team, and they shouldn't lose RR because of it.
From an ethical standpoint, I don't think winning against a team like that is fair. However, on the other side of that coin, I've also been screwed over by afkers and people deliberately deranking (not using bots, but just jumping around all over the place, knifing repeatedly, never buying anything, etc.). So, while I can understand where they're coming from and I sympathize with them... With how often I've been screwed out of RR, I'm not about to turn away an opportunity to make things right, so to speak.
Now that someone else is getting screwed, suddenly things don't look so bad for me any more. That RR I lost earlier for getting someone on my team I didn't want will finally be given back. At the end of the day, me and the other guy who wanted to finish this and move on were called "assholes", "dickheads", etc. on voice chat by the other 3 for doing this.
One of the guys stated you'll be dumped into a rank you don't belong in if you keep accepting wins like this, but this type of thing doesn't happen that often, so I'm not going to worry about it. If I was getting a free win every second match or something, I'd see where he's coming from, but I can play like 10 matches or something without seeing some afker, troll, etc. on the enemy team trying to screw them over.
So yeah, if I'm having 100 matches a month (just an example) and I'm getting 5 free wins or so, I'm not going to worry about it. I'd be more concerned if like half or over half my wins were coming from people just botting or feeding our team. At the end of the day, I certainly don't enjoy being given free wins. It annoys the hell out of me when the other team is just trolling (like trying to knife us the entire match or just jumping around with Classics every round) and giving us a free win.
It doesn't do us any good and it certainly doesn't help them either. However, I'm also not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak, so if I do get some free RR from time to time, so be it. I still remember one of the guys telling me to "be the bigger person" in voice chat and don't screw them over just because I've been screwed over, but you know that's not how the world works.
If the situation were reversed, you know damn well they'd take that RR and run. They'd probably even t-bag us and say "ez" in match chat while doing it too. That's just the way it goes, man. It's like seeing "knife fight mid" in chat. You have to either be incredibly gullible or have balls of steel to think they're gonna legitimately knife fight you and don't just want an easy kill, lol.
When you're in low elo, you always see "tactics" like that where they'll say "afk" in match chat, even though their last player obviously isn't afk. That or they'll tell you to meet up for a knife fight only to bring backup with them or just pull out a gun on you. So yeah, while I do agree with some of the points that were being made, honor doesn't exactly put food on the table, for a lack of better words.
I'm gonna take my RR when I can get it. Now, that doesn't mean I'm going to try and trick someone or anything like that, but what it does mean is that I'm probably not going to trust you when you say someone is "afk" or you wanna "knife fight" or whatever, since I know most people would sooner screw you over than actually hold up their end of the deal, especially when it comes to a competitive game. I've already seen far too many instances of a teammate dying because he actually believed them, lol.
Anyway! Setting that tangent aside for now though... How do you guys feel about free wins? Are you comfortable taking RR from someone despite having bots on their team or would you rather try to draw things out so they don't lose RR from a bad situation?
