People don't understand the importance of support.

Hello.

I am skybellrock and I got to immortal last act. I'm making this post because I am seeing that a lot of the community don't understand the importance of teammates that play support roles.

A lot of players, but more so people that main duelists, just don't understand how important other characters and support is, and how hard it can be to frag with them. They will flaunt their high K/D and act like they are much better than other people, without realizing that it is the support characters, that in most circumstances allow them to get those kills.

If you are a duelist and a Sage heals you, that Sage choosing not to be selfish is the reason you can get kills. If someone is playing very passively and holding site down, so that the enemies can't push onto site, that person is vital for your 3 kill flank. Without that person there, your flank would never work. If a support is good at smoking, stunning and sucking, it can allow the more aggressive players to get essentially free kills.

My whole point is that this is a team game. It doesn't matter how good you are at fragging, if you are a bad team player, you will likely lose. If you are top fragging, and you get angry because the other players don't get frags, and you get toxic towards them. You will loose team morale and you will lose the game.

Way too many times have I met duelist mains that never got above Plat or low diamond, which have admittedly great aim, sometimes much better than me, that are top fragging, but really toxic and really bad at playing as a teammate. They never hold anything, all they do is flank every round, think about kills instead of protecting site, lurk, etc. These players will even more often than a regular player be alive in 1v3 or 1v4, because they spent the whole game lurking. The enemies are probably hurt, so they are easy kills, but they will likely not clutch, and thus the kills they get are meaningless.

Then they wonder why they can't get to immortal, but me, which sometimes have less kills or worse aim, did. Well that is the reason. Kills really isn't everything in this game. You have to have a positive attitude towards your team, you have to think of your teammates and where you are the most useful, not where you can get the most kills. Sometimes you are most useful getting kills, but this needs to be synced with your team and the team balance.

If you have never played support characters, but only duelists, I challenge you to change character. You will learn a lot about how to support your team properly. You will see that you have to play completely different when you have less aggressive skills to help you.

I recommend Viper. Viper has literally NOTHING that can help you get kills, so you are forced to play support. I mained Viper to Immortal. I tried to play in a way that helped my teammates play better. That is the clue. You don't need to do great kill wise, if you can play smart and HELP your teammates be better. Viper has no flashes, no heal, no movement, try and frag aggressive with her and you stand no chance. Play her smart, try to keep your K/D above 1.0 while supporting and giving your teammates opportunity's, and you will see your rank sky-rocket. Sometimes you can have a negative K/D and still give your team great value as support.

I am not trying to put duelists down either. Kills are necessary, don't get me wrong. Don't expect to go 0.5 K/D as a support and make an easy way to immortal. But, sometimes I feel like supporters don't get the credit they deserve. Support has a ton of redeeming great qualities, although it is far harder for them to get kills.

I think it is time people in this game learnt that kills is not everything. Sometimes a player can be lower on the scoreboard and still give just as much utility as the top fragger.

TL:DR Supporters are essential for duelists to be able to play well. It is far harder to get kills with supporters than duelists. So please cut supporters some slack when it comes to K/D, as they can give great value outside of K/D. Try to play support yourself and learn how to play them and it will help you become a better teammate, Viper is the recommended character.
