simple analysis YOU can do in pregame to read the enemy

i coach my silver-gold-plat friends pretty often and this is something i didn't realize people do by default

when the game starts you want to look at your enemy team comp and do a very basic analysis and interpretation of what it means

the lowest level version of this is what i assume everyone does, is they see that a team doesn't have cypher of killjoy. the natural reaction is "oh, we can flank!"

this is good. the process of natural logic and problem solving is super important for analysis and even something as simple as this is a starting point

here are some basic things you should scan for while in loading phase / pregame to keep in mind during the match

  1. no initiators -- they are forced to hard clear close angles and you can afford to hold annoying off angles, shotguns may work especially well

  2. no jett / raze -- they have no gap closers, meaning that if you're able to disrupt the flow of their util (aka you molly them off when they drone through or flash), it's very uncomfortable for them to actually execute

  3. omen vs brimstone -- brimstone throws smokes simultaneously, so they're more likely to group up and pop exec out of nowhere. omen has a flash, so they're more likely to do instant rushes with the nearsight to deter holding close

  4. double initiator (sova/skye or skye/fade etc) -- they have a large amount of utility for map control. they can play very slowly and just weed out your positions by working areas with drone/dog and still have util to hit site

  5. double controller (viper/smokes or harbor/smokes) -- they can constantly sell fakes by smoking off angles and putting uncertainty about where they could be

i just thought about this on a whim, typing this from my phone so it's not very comprehensive. feel free to share more or ask questions.

important note: none of this is set in stone. obviously anyone can break from patterns, or subvert expectations. just things to keep in mind.
