I have heard that Valorant update is coming 8th of December. Is it true?

Why does everyone want a skin for their guns?
I'm fairly new to valorant but every game someone always asks "you got a vandal skin?" and I don't get why people are going crazy over it. is there an advantage to skins other than they look cool?
