Valorant MM broken? Can't queue with my silver friend but can be placed against silvers

This was one of my games from last night. The only person i'm queued with is our sage, but I have to play unrated with my silver 3 friend because our skill gap is apparently too far... make it make sense?

do you guys ever receive random friend requests?

Does anyone ever receive random friend requests usually after a match, from random people. I always check last matches, even dm however i have never played with these guys.
