I don't understand adding names beneath teammates, but can there at least be an option to disable it?

In the latest patch, I noticed that your teammate's names appear beneath them when your crosshair approaches them. That's fine and all, but I am not a fan, and I cannot find an option to disable it at all. What's the deal?
