Fast Cut, Short video version here:
This guide is based on general guidelines used in sports for boosting the players performance.
Here I adopt it for online gaming, based on these well proven theories and my own experiences with a lot of sports and a lot more online gaming over the decades. And life in general.
In this part of many others to come, I first and foremost address the problem that many fall victims to. Also, anxiety, and we are going to cover how you can recognize it.
And somehow go into how you can apply a fix.
So, let’s go straight into it.
Step: 1
Recognize the problem.
By first understanding the root cause of what leads to a drop in performance.
The underwhelming performance you can have in game, can often be traced back to what is also known as Anxiety.
So, what does this have anything to do with a game?
Well, we are all afraid of something, this can have consequences that can mount into a negative state of mind.
Also known as mindset.
Just let it go, why would you even allow this?
This is a crucial factor especially considering, that this is just a game.
What do you even have to lose?
You are in a game, what happens in a game stay there. You just have to log out, then the game is not a part of your life anymore.
So now let’s look closer at what kind of scenarios, can trigger anxiety.
Step: 2
Recognizing the Anxiety triggers.
Yes, we all have had that feeling, that I don’t want to let my team down. Just listen to yourself, I want you to do yourself a favour.
And think about how many times have you not been let down by your teammates? It is bound to happen, and like they say.
You can do everything right and still loose, so why even feel this pressure?
This is harmful thinking; this is looking at the glass half empty, its often-negative thinking like this that builds up the amount of anxiety you feel in game.
And this is for sure holding you back performance wise.
This can be easily fixed, by looking at the glass half full. It is not easy in the start, like everything else and on top of that you may have years of negative thinking implemented in your fibres.
But it is totally doable.
An example of this kind of thinking in game can be.
let’s say for an example, when you as a defender. Are afraid of applying pressure on the attackers, because you may get taken out. This is limiting you.
If you limit yourself, then you let the attackers have all the say in how they are going to apply the pressure, you give them map control. you let them dictate the pace of the game, you let them do as they please.
This is a common trend I have observed a lot of in game, also playing it safe cause of this anxiety factor kicking inn.
Like they say in chess, that you always attack, even when you are retreating.
In the martial arts classes I take, they teach us how to attack first. Because it has these benefits that are described above and many more, in a nutshell you are forcing the other team to play by the rules you set, and in this manner, you gain more control over the situation.
This is a topic that is getting covered more in dept in the upcoming parts.
Now let’s look at the other side of the coin, with the glass half full mentality.
So, let’s look at this example.
Step:3
How To Turn In game Anxiety Around.
Here We have to recognize this element, that.
In risk there is opportunity, to be found.
There is a reason the saying goes like this: high risk high reward, the higher the risk the higher the opportunity.
So, get fearless, and go on and try out new things. As long as the risk is not too high, this is off course a balancing act.
But you are for sure going to perform better, when you don’t have fear of missing your shots, and thinking about what if I fail?
So, what if you even failed?
You tried, and from failures comes the biggest growth.
And again, don’t be afraid in game. the enemy is also going to feel these big moves. And then you have them running.
And based on how you look at the situation, or if you let anxiety dictate your moves in game. You should focus on conquering it and atleast don’t let it hinder you from performing better in game.
And try to recognize if you are in a flight or fight mode.
So, in other words, you can quickly recognize if you are looking at the glass half full or half empty in game. By recognizing the fact that, are you are in a flight or fight mode?
Also known as, also known as should I run or should I fight?
Also ask yourself this, are you the hunter or the prey. In game at that particular time.
You catch my drift?
This is the first step that is vital towards better performance in a game. Thru just thinking the right way, for in game performance boost
So, the TLDR version of this is.
Go in a game with the right mindset, and be fearless.
Be the hunter not the prey.
Put them in flight mode, and keep yourself in the fight mode, even when you are running away from the enemy. Cause of the risk is too high, then look at it as a tactical retreat.
And again, what have you to lose anyways? A digital badge on the innerwebs?
Have fun, play for the long term. Give it all, but still be satisfied in the end that you tried, and this is what I had in me for the benefit of the team at that moment in your life.
Hope you found some value in this, and I would love to know down in the comments belove how you have conquered in game anxiety.
For the benefit of others please share it.
And remember it’s heavily based on the factor, on how you look at the situation. Take my advice and try out the glass half full way of life.
You can thank me later, or maybe not. No pressure.
And most important of all, stay blessed.
