What is your opinion on 'instalocks'?

Hello everyone! <3 I would like to say in advance that I do not want to attack anyone personally with this post who might be instalocking their favorite pick / agent! I just have a basic question on this subject.

Reyna is one of my favorite agents to play and personally it suits my playstyle the most. Of course, I'm open to filling any role that's needed. Unfortunately, I noticed that especially in my elo (gold - platinum), duelists like to be picked quickly, - nearly instantly. As I said before, I have no problem filling in missing roles, although I don't find it as fun for me to play smokes as I have with duelists.

I already had the conversation with my partner who advised me to instalock myself. But I don't want that. It feels like I'm completely throwing my principles overboard.

But now I'm torn. I don't want to say that all the people I've had & instalocked so far have been bad players. I actually owe a lot of wins to many because they played really well with their picked agent. But it can also be different.

So now my question is: how would you handle the situation? Do you tend to instalock as well, or do you give in and take on the role of fill?

(Quick note: I don't want to spread bad vibes with this post. I also don't want anyone to feel offended. I'd just love to hear your thoughts on this! <3)

EDIT: Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for these most civilized comments. I'm still relatively new to Reddit and therefore hardly know my way around and I'm so glad that you are so kind to share your opinion. Thanks very much! I read all the comments and am happy about all opinions on this topic!
