You think weapon skins are expensive? They're worth 50 hours of work here!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to share this story, thought someone might find it interesting!

I've been playing Valorant every night after work and I've recently become pretty good at the it (climbed out of Iron LOL). I thought maybe I could purchase a cool skin to get a kick out of it! A skin I liked was priced at around 7000 Valorant Coins or sth, idk. Turned out, that translates to around 70 USDs if I'm not mistaken (in European servers).

I live in Iran and the government's disputes with the west has got the country totally bankrupt! Their ingenious solution was to artificially raise the exchange rate of foreign currencies so they can fix the shortcomings in the annual budget. The main exchange rate for US dollars is around 1USD/42, 000IRRs, but for normal people it's 1USD/250, 000IRRs!

On the other hand, due to the economic sanctions, we have to rely on illegal third parties to carry put transactions which also add a "small" (at least 7%) fee to every exchange.

You add that up and it comes up to 18,000,000 IRRs! To give you some perspective, I'm a full stack web developer and my hourly rate at my last job was 350,000 IRRs or 1.4 USDs. I currently work as a freelancer which sometimes pays better than that (especially if I get to work with some company abroad) but that's basically thr rate. Now, with a little math you'd realize that's 72 hours of work, 9 full days worth of work!

So I should say I'm really grateful to the fellas who share their skins with their teammates and let us gaze into these glorious cosmetics too!

P.S. This is a throwaway account. My main has some posts that might give away who I am and I'm terrified of our government :)

Edit: The title was based on some early incorrect estimates!
