Brimstone on Haven: Round Plans That Survive Missed Lineups

Brimstone guides often begin with a lineup and end before the round starts. The throw may be accurate, but the team still has to reach the site, plant safely and survive the retake. On Haven, a three-site map can make that gap more obvious because the attack can change direction while the controller is still thinking about the original plan.

Use lineups as a memory aid, not as the round plan. A useful smoke has a job, a timing and a fallback when the enemy does something ordinary.

What Riot documents

Riot's current Brimstone page identifies Brimstone as a Controller and documents his ability kit. Riot's Haven map page provides the official map reference. Its Beginner's Guide recommends learning routes, checking angles, asking whether utility helps the next goal and communicating.

The smoke jobs, site choices and practice method below are Valorant Village coaching interpretation. This article does not provide exact coordinates or guarantee that a lineup works after a map or client change.

Give each smoke a job

Before the barrier drops, describe the smoke by the angle it removes. “Block the far retake lane so we clear close” is better than “smoke site.” The wording tells the entry player what they still need to check and tells the team what the smoke is buying.

On attack, the first smoke may protect a cross, hide the Spike plant or split the site into a smaller fight. On defense, it may delay a choke, obscure a contact or give a teammate time to rotate. The same ability can serve a different job in the next round.

The playing-for-space guide gives a useful test. What option can another player use because the smoke exists? If the answer is none, the smoke may be early, decorative or aimed at the wrong lane.

Build a three-site plan

For each Haven site, write three lines:

  1. First contact: which player sees the first dangerous angle?
  2. Smoke job: which sightline becomes easier to cross or hold?
  3. Fallback: where does the team go if the plant lane is blocked?

Do not fill the page with every possible lineup. Start with one smoke that helps a normal execute and one post-plant position that is easy to repeat. A small plan is more valuable than a catalogue that disappears when the round changes.

If the enemy stacks the first site, call the fact and preserve the second option. If a defender gives ground, do not spend the whole execute chasing a kill through the smoke. Take the space the team can hold and keep the Spike safe.

Post-plant is a second round plan

After the plant, your job changes. You may need to save one piece of utility for the defuse, protect the player holding the important angle or help a teammate leave the site. Do not throw a remembered lineup because the Spike is down. Ask where the defuser must stand and whether the team can see the fight.

The post-plant practice guide is useful when practising without a live caller. Walk the route, mark the safe hold and name the position that needs help. If the lineup fails, the round should still have a rifle plan.

On defense, save enough utility for the retake or delay. A controller who spends every smoke in the first ten seconds can leave the team with no way to cross the final angle.

Test lineups as decisions

In a custom game, test one throw under four conditions: normal position, rushed position, a teammate taking first contact and a changed plant. Record the angle the throw affects and the action that follows. If the throw only works while everyone is silent and still, it is a setup, not a ranked default.

Check the map after patches and map updates. Do not copy a clip that does not name its date, map version or plant location. If the reference is unclear, use the smoke job and recreate a simpler version in the current client.

Keep a second smoke for the moment after the plan breaks. A defender who pushes through an early smoke, a missed plant or a teammate who dies can all change the round. Brimstone's value is not measured by how many remembered throws you used. It is measured by whether the team still has a playable sightline when the first idea fails.
